Three weeks ago, the premium cosmetics brand Noble Panacea took its first steps on Chinese soil by investing in luxury shopping mall of Plaza 66 in Shanghai with a first space dedicated to a futuristic look. Because with Noble Panacea, it’s really about innovation that we’re talking about.
The cosmetics brand was founded in 2019 by Professor Sir James Fraser Stoddart, 2016 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry. At the heart of Noble Panacea’s formulas, we find the Organic Super Molecular Vessel (OSMV), a technology which encapsulates the active ingredients and allows their release to be programmed, promising maximum effectiveness for the skin.
“We are a cosmetics company but above all we are a Deep Tech (companies that offer disruptive solutions, editor’s note)”, explains Céline Talabaza, CEO of Noble Panacea. This beauty specialist who worked at L’Oréal, LVMH and Unilever emphasizes that these technologies could ultimately be applied to d other industries.
Noble Panacea was thus born partly in the chemical laboratories of the Stoddart Research Group at Northwestern University, located in Illinois in the United States. A laboratory headed by Sir Fraser Stoddart who, at 82, was recently appointed honorary professor at East China Normal University.
“Sir Fraser Stoddart’s idea was to “democratize” fundamental research by integrating it into products for daily use,” explains Céline Talabaza, who explains that the brand works alongside associations to provide access to young girls in scientific careers.
With an average price of 320 euros, Noble Panacea is anchored in the lineage of ultra-luxury cosmetic brands such as La Prairie, La Mer and Augustinus Bader. To protect its technology, the brand offers its creams and serums in recyclable single-use sachets. The boxes in which they are presented are biodegradable and 100% recyclable.
The brand, which cultivates selective distribution – Le Bon Marché in Paris, Harrods in London – is present in fifteen countries. Its main market remains the United States, which is its domestic market since Sir Fraser Stoddart, of Scottish origin, has American nationality. The laboratories, the supply chain and the shipping department are also based in Irvine, California. And it is from Switzerland that the European market is managed.
Discreet about its financial results, but also about its shareholder structure, the brand today achieves the majority of its sales via its e-shop.
