Spanish international Silvia Arderius, from Costa del Sol Málaga, has announced that she is going to become a mother and will take a temporary break from the sport of handball for this season. The Málaga club reported this in a statement on Sunday. “Due to her pregnancy, the Costa del Sol Málaga player will end her elite sporting activities for the 2024/25 season,” specifies the press release.
Arderius, who has yet to make his debut this season due to injury, both in the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola and the EHF European Cup, is 13 weeks pregnant, as is Valencia Basket’s Cristina Ouviña, who also temporarily suspended his basketball practices.
Originally from Madrid, this player spent five seasons at the Costa del Sol and was involved in the five titles won by the Malaga club: a league title, two cups, a super cup and a European cup.
Interestingly, after her participation in the recent Paris Olympics, the 35-year-old playmaker communicated her decision to step away from the Spanish national team to focus even more on her club, Costa del Sol. “The club wishes Silvia good luck in this new personal chapter that she is about to open,” said the Málaga club in a statement.
