It was around 6 a.m. Saturday morning that police officers from the Eeyou Eenou Police Service (SPEE) were called to go to a beach in Chisasibi, a Cree land of some 5,000 inhabitants located east of James Bay.

At the scene, a young man under 18 years old and whose age has not been confirmed by the authorities was unresponsive and had serious injuries possibly caused by a bladed weapon, indicates a press release from the SPEE.

He was rushed to Chisasibi hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Arrests

Two suspects, also minors, were arrested by the police.

They appeared and will remain in custody, facing charges of second-degree murder, suggesting the crime was unpremeditated.

The investigation is now being carried out by the crimes against the person team of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which will collaborate with the local police.

The forensic identification service was dispatched to the scene to analyze the scene and shed light on this matter.
