Russian President Vladimir Putin underlined, on Sunday, the “increasingly rich and multifaceted” nature of cooperation between Russia and African states, on the occasion of the 1st Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, held in Sochi.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, is taking part in this Conference which brings together the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and African States members of the United Nations. In a speech read on his behalf by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during the plenary session of this international conclave, Mr. Putin stressed that African countries enjoy growing authority on the world stage and play a more important role in resolving major issues on the international agenda.
“By pursuing a constructive and peace-loving foreign policy, they are playing an increasingly important role in resolving major issues on the international agenda,” he said. Russia attaches “particular importance” to strengthening traditionally friendly relations with its African partners, the Russian head of state continued, noting that Moscow will continue to provide “all possible assistance” to its African friends in various areas (development sustainable, health, food security, management of the consequences of natural disasters, fight against terrorism and extremism, etc.).
The 1st Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, which follows the Summits of Saint Petersburg (2023) and Sochi (2019), aims to take stock of the provisions of the Declarations adopted at these two Summits and to identify future-oriented cooperation prospects, in order to better meet the expectations and aspirations of African States.
