The IDF has discovered videos documenting interrogation and torture of Palestinian civilians in Gaza by Hamas, reports the Daily Mail. The images show prisoners chained to the floor and ceiling, their heads covered with bags. In one of the videos, a man can be seen screaming in pain. These thousands of hours of recordings, captured by surveillance cameras between 2018 and 2020, were discovered in computers seized during an IDF raid on a Hamas base in the Jabaliya refugee camp last March.
Hamza Al-Hawidi, 27, an accountant who fled Gaza, testified that he was arrested after participating in a demonstration against the government in Gaza. “They torture you until you break down and say what they want to hear. I could hear the protesters screaming in the next room,” he told the Mail on Sunday.
“Hamas controls everything,” he continues. “One man was detained for three years and tortured three times a week. They forced objects into his body. Another was given electric shocks for two years, until they discovered he was innocent .The first thing he did next was shoot the Hamas officer who denounced him – his uncle.”
An Israeli reserve officer told the British newspaper that the eliminated Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, was “obsessed with finding collaborators, and detained thousands of people against their will. Some detainees were given electric shocks, others were chained to cars until they died. They did not even allow the families to have a dignified burial, and left a mark on the bodies indicating that they were collaborators.
“You will never have a lawyer and your family will have no idea what happened to you,” adds Al-Hawidi. “There is more and more hatred towards Hamas, especially after the war, but since Hamas controls the media and people are afraid, we don't hear about it.”
