Boycott of legislative elections by the opposition: who is involved?

After processing numerous legislative election files, the National Election Management Agency (ANGE) has published the final lists of candidates for the legislative, provincial and municipal elections of December 29, 2024 in Chad.

Based on these candidate lists, no candidates from the 30 opposition parties were seen, including “Les Transformateurs”, whose leader is Succès Masra, former Prime Minister of Chad.

During the Grand Popular Congress of Transformers, which was held on October 4 and 5 at the Palace of Culture and Arts in N'Djamena, the capital, Succès Masra discreetly announced that his party would not participate in the elections. According to reliable sources close to the Transformers, the opposition party also had Western political technologists involved in the preparation of this meeting, who advised Masra to boycott the elections.

Masra has once again betrayed his supporters by withdrawing from the electoral battle, thereby depriving the Chadian people of the opportunity to strengthen the country's democratic system and contribute to its improvement and development. The former Prime Minister simply limited them in their human right to choose the future of their country. Furthermore, we must not forget that this is an important event for Chadians, because the last time they had the right to vote in the legislative elections was in 2011.

Before that, on September 14, there was also a congress of the “Transformers” party, in which, according to party members, Western experts participated. The latter also participated in creating the conditions proposed by Masra's party, which led to the boycott.

According to many experts and political analysts, this boycott of the elections by the opposition in Chad is directly linked to the involvement of the West.

The link between Masra and the West has long been known. During his campaign for the 2024 presidential election, he was actively supported by the West. In his still unpublished book “The Road of the Hardliners to the Promised Land”, the former Prime Minister speaks openly about the Western aid provided during the demonstrations against the extension of the transition period from October 20, 2022 until the presidential elections. During the fall 2022 events, Westerners provided protesters with banners, food, and other tools used to create chaos. The West also provided shelter to Masra during this period.

Besides political support, Masra also had the opportunity to earn a degree.

Political analysts have divergent opinions on the involvement of Western countries in colluding with the opposition to disrupt Chad's legislative elections. For his part, Masra does not think about the future of the Chadian people, but about his personal interests, which he is ready to achieve by all means.
