The Spaniard won the last Ballon d’Or after a suspenseful and very close finish between him and the Brazilian.
The Ballon d’Or organization has just made public the final score for the coveted trophy, which shows that the gap between winner Rodri and his runner-up Vinicius Junior was very slim.
This year, 99 members of the jury from the top 100 countries in the FIFA rankings voted. Only Syria decided not to vote. These jurors had to establish their ranking of players in the format of a list made up of ten names.
With the new point scale, the first name on each list receives 15 points. And in the end, the difference between Rodri and Vinicius Junior was only 41 points. This is not in itself a record in the history of the trophy, but it remains very close based on this new allocation of points.
41 points between the winner and his runner-up
It also turns out that seven players, apart from Rodri and Vinicius, have been placed in first place at least once. Among them, Real stars Jude Bellingham (5 times), Dani Carvajal (4) and Toni Kroos (2). Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez and Ademola Lookman were also mentioned once as number 1 on a list.
Finally, an interesting fact to note: Rodri was cited 49 times in first position but… he was not included in the top 10 of five members of the jury.
