An arson attack destroyed a vehicle on Sunday morning in the parking lot of an apartment building located in the Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) received the call shortly after midnight for a fire on Forsyth Street near 42nd Avenue.

According to SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant, firefighters were already controlling the flames when the police arrived.

“According to initial information obtained from a witness, it seems that a person was seen not far from the vehicle before the fire started, which suggests a criminal act,” he said. For this reason, the investigation was transferred to the arson section of the SPVM.”

The vehicle is a total loss. It will be towed to carry out an assessment. No other vehicles were affected by the fire.

“The investigators will travel in the morning to analyze the scene and try to understand the circumstances,” said Mr. Brabant. The content of surveillance cameras will also have to be analyzed.”
