Samuel Beauchemin scored a double and collected two assists in a 7-5 win for the Huskies against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, Saturday in Rouyn-Noranda.
Beauchemin, an 18-year-old center player, had never obtained more than two points in a game in the Maritimes Quebec Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He scored his first two goals of the season and has 20 points in 70 games on the circuit.
Bill Zonnon also contributed to the victory with two goals and an assist. Axel Dufresne, Lars Steiner and Evan Courtois all scored and had an assist for the Huskies, who moved to within three points of the Drummondville Voltigeurs and first place in the Western Conference with a game in hand.
Samuel Meloche gave up two goals in the third period to allow the Armada to get within one goal with just under three minutes remaining in the game. He ultimately stopped 28 pucks.
Justin Carbonneau opened the scoring in the first period for the Armada, which was trying to win a third game in a row. Mateo Nobert added two goals in the second period, then Alexandre Carbonneau and Bo Damphousse scored in the third.
Vincent Gladu allowed six goals on 29 shots.
Sea Dogs 3 – Océanic 4
Dominic Pilote and Jacob Mathieu scored 41 seconds apart in the third period and the Océanic defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-3 in Rimouski.
Olivier Théberge and Maël St-Denis had previously scored to allow the local favorites to tie the game after a goal from Eriks Mateiko and take the lead for good.
Samuel St-Hilaire only had to make 15 saves to sign a second victory in as many days after a 35-save performance against the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
Olivier Groulx and Ben Cross were the other scorers for the Sea Dogs, who lost the first three games of their road trip. Justin Robinson was targeted 36 times.
Tigers 6 – Drillers 5
Thomas Gagnon ruled in overtime and the Victoriaville Tigres defeated the Foreurs 6-5 in Val-d’Or.
Eliott Simard scored a hat trick for the Tigres, who have won only seven games in 19 games this season. Francesco Iasenza and Mathis Aguilar also moved the ropes. Gabriel D’Aigle blocked 29 shots.
The Foreurs’ response came from the sticks of Alexandre Guy, Nathan Brisson, Nathan Baril, Philippe Veilleux and Samuel Fiala. Cédric Massé conceded six goals on 20 shots.
