JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel on Saturday rejected warnings from a group of international food security experts of famine in parts of northern Gaza where the IDF is fighting the Palestinian group Hamas.

“Unfortunately, researchers continue to rely on partial and biased data and superficial sources with vested interests,” the army wrote in a statement.

The independent Famine Review Committee (FRC) warned on Friday of an imminent famine in parts of northern Gaza, stressing the urgent need for action by the conflicting parties to improve the situation .

Israel said it had increased efforts to deliver aid, including opening an additional crossing point on Friday.

Since the start of the war in October 2023, 39,000 trucks loaded with more than 840,000 tons of food have entered Gaza, Israel said, and meetings take place daily with the UN, which has 700 trucks.

The United States, Israel's main allies, have called on the Jewish state to improve the situation in the coming days or risk reducing military cooperation.
