The home victory against Saint-Gall (2-0) gave wings to Servette FC Chênois Féminin. On the other hand, the traditional championship gives way to the Swiss Cup this Sunday at 3 p.m. against Zürisee United. In Zurich, the Garnet must win.
The performance of the last match
The players did not fall into the trap of these timid second halves, those which led to the defeat at home against Zürich then Basel. Against Saint Gall, Swiss international Sandrine Mauron and her teammates were able to give more offensive pep even though the result was only 2-0.
The young Laura Tufo, like the players who entered the match with her (Revelli, Janusaite in particular) showed what they were up to by scoring a few minutes from the end of the match.
The form of the opponent
To be frank, we don’t know much about this Zürisee United team, residents of group 2 of the 1st league. However, in the previous round, FC Luzern Frauen presented a team capable of moving up within this same division. But the Grenat’s former opponent in the Swiss Cup suffered a 0-7 defeat, while the Swiss-Germans are currently third in the ranking. Zürisee United is 12th place (out of 13th) in the 1st league.
This demonstrates Servette’s chance to face, in the round of 16 of the Cup, a supposedly weak team. She concedes many goals, which can leave the door open to the Geneva attack.
The Servettian to follow
Could this be the opportunity to fully discover Jaanika Volkov? The young Estonian international arrived this September to compensate numerically for the departure of Elodie Nakkach. Small in size, the 19-year-old could find her place in midfield as a perfect matchmaker for the Garnet defense and attack. She is currently lacking playing time, the opportunity is perfect for José Barcala to offer her some!
This Sunday, Servette plays a knockout match against Zürisee United. Affordable, the opponent should not be an obstacle for the Garnet if they want to hope to win the Swiss Cup again.
