In ten days, SM Caen gave itself a little breath of fresh air by stringing together two precious victories in Martigues (0-3) and against Bastia (2-0). To continue this series, Nicolas Seube's men planned to raise their performance another notch on the pitch at FC Metz. The Caen footballers gave themselves the means to surprise the Messins by playing a good twenty minutes in the first half. They were not rewarded for their attempts, the post pushing back Mendy's head (5th) then an equalizing ball (28th) from the Caen striker.
Because if Malherbe had the first strikes of the match by Noé Lebreton or for the headers of Thomas, it was the Lorraines who were the most effective. On a cross from Jallow, Gauthier Hein opened the scoring with Messins' second shot on target (27th).
In the second half, Malherbe gave himself the means to come back to the score: Alexandre Mendy placed a flat foot above Oukidja's crossbar (69th) then to the left of the Messin goalkeeper's post (80th)
