Death of Françoise Hardy: this wish that her son Thomas could not fulfill

Françoise Hardy took her last breath on June 11, at the age of 80. If there is one person who should feel the most pain related to his disappearance, it is necessarily his only son, Thomas, who admired him very much. It was he who took it upon himself to announce his death publicly on Instagram, revealing a photo from his childhood to immortalize this sad date. The 50-year-old musician will now keep the many beautiful memories he has with his mother, but perhaps also a little regret.

The singer, who suffered for years from pharyngeal cancer and lymphoma, led a terribly difficult life just before leaving this world. And that’s what made her son Thomas’s dream of seeing her attend a concert with her father, Jacques Dutronc, impossible. As reported The Parisian on June 12, when his mother had managed to thwart the doctor’s predictions, who was convinced that she was living her last moments, he had decided to take advantage of this golden opportunity to “to please him by convincing his father to go back on stage“. The two men therefore gave several shows together, from April to December 2022.

A singer who was in too much pain to move

Every evening, Jacques and Thomas Dutronc took advantage of these unique moments spent together on stage to pay tribute to this woman who meant so much to them, namely Françoise Hardy, who never divorced the father of her son despite their separation. In his honor, they covered, in an instrumental version, his song The time of lovereleased in 1962. When they performed in Paris, the duo hoped that the artist could attend one of their concerts. “But she couldn’t. That’s my only regret. But she doesn’t leave her house anymore,” Thomas Dutronc confided to our colleagues in November 2023. With emotion, he added, on the subject of the illness and the approaching end: “She’s not fighting, she’s struggling. I don’t want her to die, I need her.”
