Last year, Uber announced that it was launching on the Basque coast for the summer season. After a year of intensified operation, the company connecting VTC drivers and individuals is perpetuating and is officially launching all year round in Bayonne and Biarritz.

Uber is setting up a permanent presence in the Basque Country. Last year, the American company, which specializes in connecting VTC drivers with individuals, launched its summer season on the Basque coast. With a satisfactory first year, the company has announced that it will be launching a permanent presence in Bayonne and Biarritz.

It must be said that the application is ” More reliable “ according to the terms of the American giant. In other words, more users were able to complete their trip. Supply met demand. Thus, in 2023, 180,000 people will have opened the application to order a trip all along the coast, compared to 110,000 the previous year. Without providing the number of trips carried out in the area, Uber specifies that approximately “one in three requests could not be fulfilled on the first attempt due to lack of drivers”.

The share of Basque users on the rise

Drivers were encouraged by Uber to come closer to the Basque coast during the summer season, with attractive pricing. If the incentive was withdrawn at the end of the summer, the fact remains that they are now “between 34 and 35 drivers on average who connect from Bayonne and Biarritz” we assure Uber.

In detail, of all the journeys made, 41% of them are in Bayonne. As for the passengers, they are 16% local, 48% from the rest of France and 37% international. “The share of Basques has increased in one year” Uber says. “ Since the start of the year, they represent around 25% of passengers.” So the VTC application expects a change in this proportion. Even if at the time of the Bayonne Festival, Uber expects a majority of tourists.

This was already the case last year, with demand ten times higher than during the low season. Faced with this exceptional demand, 210 drivers were connected to the application during the five days of the holidays.

With this official launch, Uber now claims to be present in 35 cities in France and cover more than 900 municipalities.
