Seriously ill, Queen Camilla officially absent from Remembrance Day commemorations

Misfortune once again befalls the royal family. Last week, Buckingham Palace revealed that Queen Camilla had suffered a lung infection, scaring royal fans after news of Kate Middleton and Charles III’s cancers broke this year. And if the sovereign’s doctors had prescribed several days of rest, it seems that the latter’s convalescence must be prolonged. Buckingham Palace announced this Saturday that the Queen had medical orders to stay away from gatherings, forcing her to cancel her appearance at the Remembrance Day commemorations, this Sunday, November 10, at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London.

A convalescence at Ray Mill

As detailed by the palace, the Queen, aged 77, is expected to remain at her private residence in Ray Mill, Wiltshire, where she will discreetly mark the important day. “While this is a source of great disappointment to the Queen, she will celebrate the event privately at her home and hopes to return to public duties early next week,” the statement said. His absence at the cenotaph, highly symbolic, illustrates Buckingham’s caution regarding the state of health of the sovereign.

To make up for his absence, the royal family reorganized its representatives for this annual tribute to veterans and fallen soldiers. The Duchess of Gloucester, Birgitte, visited Westminster to open the Field of Remembrance, a ceremony that Camilla usually patronizes as patron of the charity The Poppy Factory. The queen’s lung infection was contracted after the latter’s diplomatic tour of Australia and Samoa at the end of October, alongside her husband Charles III.
