At the end of the trial, Stanislav Rau and Anton Sopov were found guilty of unlawfully entering a house and dangerously killing two or more people, including minors (under Part 1 of article 139, clauses “a”, “c”, “g”, part 2 Art 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The two individuals appealed this decision and only partially admit their guilt, ensuring that they had not done it “in a dangerous manner and out of hatred based on nationality”, reports the TASS news agency. If the decision is upheld on appeal, the two soldiers could be incarcerated in one of the famous penal colonies with a special regime, without any possibility of release.
Stanislav Rau, 28, was born in the village of Volchikha in the Altai Territory, southern Russia. Anton Sopov, 21, is from the village of Yaroslavsky in the Primorsky Territory, southeast of Russia. He had already been sentenced in February 2023 for violently hazing another soldier.
