Wednesday November 6, 2024it is after 9 p.m. when the young man of 25 ends up breaking down in front of the police officer from the Dieppe police station (Seine-Maritime).
It was after several hours in police custody and in the face of the evidence that the Rouennais ended up recognizing the facts of which he is accused.
The Bruyères district mobilized
A little earlier, at 5:35 p.m., he was arrested in the Bruyères district.
It was the residents of the different buildings who called the police. The young man and his colleague had been door-to-door canvassing since the beginning of the afternoon.
A legal operation since they both work for a company based in Rouen.
Around 4:30 p.m., when they entered a resident's home, the 25-year-old canvasser took the opportunity to get his hands on a wallet. Except that the victim's daughter notices his gesture and once the canvassers have left, she warns her father. The latter then alerts his sister-in-law who lives in another building in the neighborhood.
He first denies the facts
In a few minutes, everyone in Bruyères was informed and this is how the canvassers were arrested.
Placed in police custody, the two men initially denied the facts. Very quickly, one of the two, the 25-year-old man's colleague, explained that he had indeed seen that his teammate was stealing objects including the wallet in question.
While searching the individual, the police also found two checks in the name of another resident of Bruyères.
A stolen bank card used
Warned by the police, the latter confirmed that she had received a visit from the touts around 3 p.m. and she realized that her wallet had also been stolen. His bank card was also used in a tobacco shop for a purchase of €60. Electronic cigarettes also disappeared in the first apartment, one of which was eventually found in a neighborhood trash can.
Faced with the evidence, the 25-year-old canvasser therefore admitted the facts. He will be tried in September 2025 in court upon prior admission of guilt. His colleague, who was on a career discovery day, was exonerated.
