On October 28, Spanish midfielder Rodri Hernández received the prestigious Ballon d’Or award as the best footballer of the season. This accolade was awarded to the Manchester City player after he received the majority of votes in the race.
This award sparked controversy, as it was believed, a few weeks earlier, that Vinícius Jr. would be the overall winner. However, Rodri surprised everyone by overtaking the Brazilian in the competition.
Recently, France Football, the magazine responsible for awarding the prize, revealed the votes and points accumulated by each candidate. It was revealed that Rodri finished with a 41-point lead over Vinícius Jr.

The Spanish midfielder received a total of 1,170 votes, while Real Madrid’s Vinícius Jr. secured 1,129 votes. Jude Bellingham completed the podium in third place with 917 votes. Dani Carvajal and Erling Haaland finished in the Top 5 with 550 and 432 points respectively.
Voting for the Ballon d’Or is carried out by a selected group of 100 journalists. The top ten players selected by each voter received points as follows: 15, 12, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point respectively. The Ballon d’Or is awarded to the player with the highest number of votes.
