On February 14, around 5:52 a.m., an exchange of fire was heard in Jacques Franck Square. Badreddine Jammal, a 23-year-old man, was killed in the shooting. He was taken under fire by three men, who then fled in the direction of Porte de Hal. The victim, staying illegally, was a drug trafficker operating in the square in question and in the surrounding area.

This shooting was at least the fourth, in a few days and in the same neighborhood. The first took place on February 11, rue Lacaille. Two people were injured. On February 13, around 2:00 p.m., shots from a weapon of war were heard in Jacques Franck Square. The gunshots did not cause any injuries, but in their escape, the perpetrators hit a woman and collided with several vehicles.

On the night of February 14, a first incident occurred on Boulevard du Midi, around 1:30 a.m., during which a night store was the target of gunfire without any injuries being reported. Suspicions indicate that the shooting leading to Jamal’s death represented retaliation following the first exchange of fire earlier in the night. The various incidents are believed to be part of a territorial conflict between different gangs of drug traffickers.
