Journalist Didier Roustan, former great voice of Téléfoot and columnist for the Chaîne L’Équipe, has died at the age of 66, L’Équipe announced on Wednesday.
“Aged 66, Didier Roustan, a figure on the L’Équipe channel since 1999, died suddenly in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday after several weeks of fighting against the disease,” wrote L’Équipe on its site.
Born in Brazzaville (Congo), Didier Roustan began his career at the age of 19 on TF1, quickly becoming a pillar of the cult TV show Téléfoot of which he was the presenter between 1986 and 1989. He then worked for Canal+, carrying out large format reports on all sports.
Éric Cantona, friend and colleague
He joined Antenne 2 (ancestor of France 2) in 1992, commenting in particular on the Mondial-94 in the United States with his good friend Éric Cantona before arriving on Équipe TV in 1999.
Roustan, a lover of the beautiful game and South American football, became famous for his colorful style and his lyrical flights.
In September 2023, he published a book of memories entitled “Puzzle” in which he spoke of his all-consuming passion for football.
The journalist also founded the International Association of Professional Players in 1995 with Argentine legend Diego Maradona, his lifelong idol.
