For the French test, which will start at 8 a.m. (until noon), 390,129 candidates are registered in the general route and 145,294 in the technological route. They will have to choose between an essay and a text commentary for the general baccalaureate, and between a commentary and a text contraction associated with an essay for the technological baccalaureate.

The dissertation, and the essay in the technological sector, relate to a text on the program, which is built around the four major literary genres: novel, poetry, theater and literature of ideas. For each genre, the students studied one work, among three proposed.

Rimbaud, Rabelais, Molière…

We could thus study “Manon Lescaut” (1731) by Abbé Prévost, “La Peau de chagrin” (1831) by Balzac or “Sido” (1929) by Colette for the novel; “Le Cahier de Douai” (1893) by Arthur Rimbaud, “The Rage of Expression” (1952) by Francis Ponge or “My Forests” (2021) by Hélène Dorion for poetry.

For the literature of ideas, the program includes “Gargantua” (1534) by Rabelais, “Les Caractères” (1688) by La Bruyère and the “Declaration of the Rights of Women and Citizens” (1791) by Olympe de Gouges. For the theater, this year, “The Imaginary Sick” (1673) by Molière, “Les Fausses confidences” (1737) by Marivaux and “Just the end of the world” (1990) by Jean-Luc Lagarce were proposed.

The French written test has a coefficient of 5 in the general and technological sections.

This writing will be followed by an oral French exam, also with a coefficient of 5 and which covers the same texts. The dates of the oral exam are set by each academy. The number of texts on the program for this test has been reduced from 20 to 16 this year in general.
