The All Saints’ Day holidays are behind us but some will be able to enjoy a long weekend with November 11th. Others will work this Monday, November 11, 2024. Can an employer force me to work? We take stock.
In France, only May 1 is a non-working day and therefore necessarily not worked. No one works outside of essential services like police, firefighters or hospital workers.
November 11th not worked is therefore not automatic. For this day, it is therefore necessary to check the company’s collective agreement or branch agreement which defines non-working public holidays, explains the Ministry of Labor. Otherwise, it is the employer who sets them.
Exceptions for minors
Rest on public holidays is nevertheless compulsory for young employees and apprentices under 18 years old. There are exceptions in certain services such as hotels, restaurants or even bakeries. If an employee under the age of 18 works on a public holiday, he or she must benefit from 36 hours of consecutive rest during the week.
