German carmaker Audi is considering a significant reduction in its workforce, with several thousand jobs at risk in non-production functions, according to a German business magazine.
Job cuts in indirect functions
According to Manager Magazin, Audi plans to reduce around 15% of its indirect positions, mainly in the development sector. This plan could affect more than 2,000 jobs in this category alone. In Germany, nearly 4,500 indirect positions are said to be at stake, in an effort to reduce costs and restructure its activities.
Negotiations in progress, but no details on the number
Audi confirmed to Reuters that negotiations were underway with worker representatives, but without revealing the exact scale of the planned job cuts. The company is therefore remaining tight-lipped about the precise figures, but current talks show the potential for substantial reductions.
A drop in profits linked to the probable closure of the Brussels factory
Audi’s financial situation suffered a sharp decline in the third quarter, partly due to high costs associated with the likely closure of its Brussels plant, which employs around 3,000 people. This site, dedicated to the production of the Q8 E-tron, suffers from low demand for this model, which pushes Audi to consider closing this facility.
Volkswagen plans to close three factories in Germany
Audi, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen group, may not be the only one affected. Volkswagen is also reportedly considering closing three factories in Germany to cut costs as part of its long-term restructuring plan.
