Lyon: pro-Palestinian activists demonstrate against the arrival of Yaël Braun-Pivet, Michel Barnier supports him

She didn't give in. While pro-Palestinian activists demonstrated this Friday against the arrival of Yaël Braun-Pivet at the University of 3, where slogans hostile to Israel and the President of the National Assembly were sprayed, the latter immediately even went there for an exchange with students from a university association, after a trip to Neuville-sur-Saône in the Rhône as part of Parliament's policy of opening up to the outside world.

According to our information, Michel Barnier and Bruno Retailleau called the President of the National Assembly after her intervention to assure her of their support.

At the microphone of BFMTV, and while the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau came at the same time on his X account to declare “his total support”, Yaël Braun-Pivet deplored “the caricatures” launched against him by his opponents .

And to affirm that “it is not because public debate is difficult these days that we must stop, I will continue to fight”. And to conclude: “I will never give up”.

A declaration in the form of a response to “Yaël get out of there” that could be read among the tags, including many “Free Gaza” or “Free Palestine”, written during the night near the establishment. In the middle of the afternoon, several dozen demonstrators also continued in the same vein, chanting “criminal Israel, Yaël complicit” or “Yaël, get out of there, Lyon 3 is not yours” near the university.

Several left-wing organizations, including solidarity student unions and Unef or young local LFIs, denounced the arrival of the Macronist leader, calling her “an eminent figure of unconditional support for the criminal actions of the Israeli state” in a press release.

“While the deaths caused by Israel's operations number in the tens of thousands (more than 41,000 dead!) Yaël Braun-Pivet once again dared to defend the delivery of weapons to a criminal state,” highlight the signatories of the press release. On October 6, on BFMTV, Yaël Braun-Pivet declared that “we should not disarm Israel”, in reaction to statements by Emmanuel Macron calling for an end to deliveries of weapons used to carry out fighting in Gaza.
