Vinicius beaten by only 41 points!

While waiting for the details of the votes of each of the 99 journalists which will be published tomorrow by , the magazine L’Equipe has revealed the number of points obtained by the first two.

On October 28, Rodri Hernández was crowned the best player in the world, to everyone’s surprise because everyone expected Vinicius Junior to win this evening after his great season with Real Madrid. The Madrid club, informed of the result a few hours before, also chose to boycott the gala to express its dissatisfaction.

The Manchester City midfielder received a total of 1170 points, while the Real Madrid player received 1129 points. In the final standings, Bellingham finished 3rd, Carvajal 4th and Haaland 5th. Kylian Mbappé took sixth place. Lautaro (7th), Lamine Yamal (8th), Kroos (9th) and Harry Kane (10th) complete the top 10.

The vote for the Ballon d’Or awarded by France Football took place as follows. The ten players selected by each of the journalists received 15, 12, 10, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point respectively. This year, as in 2023, where a reform was carried out, a journalist from each of the 99 countries best ranked by FIFA had the right to vote.

The daily L’Equipe revealed that in addition to Rodri and Vinicius, Jude Bellingham came in first place 5 times. Four journalists awarded this honor to Carvajal, two to Kroos. Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martínez and Ademola Lookman were named number 1 for a journalist on one occasion…

This highlighting of the details of the votes will probably not console Vinicius Junior, who now knows that he missed the supreme coronation by a little, really very little. It will also be interesting to see tomorrow which journalists have decided to exclude the Brazilian from the top places, although we already know some of them…
