A fire heavily damaged a three-unit building on Nolin Street in Alma Thursday evening.

When firefighters arrived, shortly before 11:30 p.m., flames were coming out of a second-story window. Fortunately, all the occupants had been evacuated safely.

The disaster required a general alarm and mobilized 25 firefighters from the Alma Fire Prevention Department. They remained there until 4:30 a.m. Friday morning.

A smoking article is believed to be the cause of the fire. The damage was considerable and the occupants were taken care of by the Red Cross.

The family who lived on the ground floor had just moved there following another fire that occurred in recent weeks in the building they lived in on Price Street.
