After welcoming the arrival of a member of the government, Gilles Bourdouleix, the mayor of Cholet, denounced the speech of the company which advanced “problems of international competition” to justify his upcoming departure from the city.

“The death of Michelin Cholet is not an accident. It’s an industrial assassination, a premeditated murder”he declared. “We organized the end of Cholet, like the end of (Morbihan), like the end of La Roche-sur-Yon (Vendée), like the end of Joué-lès- (Indre-et-Loire) in two , three years. Michelin's objective is to have only one site, in Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme), and to have factories in countries where it costs less to produce.he added.

The Minister for Industry was booed by demonstrators in front of the factory, shortly before 1 p.m. He didn't stay there long.
