In “Houris”, Kamel Daoud evokes the “black decade” in Algeria, from 1992 to 2002, when the country was under the influence of Islamist terrorism. A civil war which pitted the political power of Algiers against several Islamist groups and caused more than one hundred and fifty thousand victims.
