Thursday November 7, 2024, Olivier Caracotch, Dijon prosecutor, provided further information during a press conference. According to his statements, the young man “does not dispute the facts” and admits to having committed the act “in a daze” with vague memories of the facts. In police custody, he also told investigators the place where he hid a “pocket knife”, potentially the murder weapon. He was found by the police in a wood.
Life imprisonment incurred
Concerning the reasons for this gesture, tensions between the victim and her daughter-in-law were highlighted. Olivier Caracotch spoke of a “significant disagreement” and a “difficult cohabitation” between the forty-year-old and the teenager, detailed France Blue Burgundy. The daughter-in-law also admitted to having facilitated the escape of her companion after the attack. Both were indicted: he for murder, she for complicity in murder.
A third person, the young man's mother, was initially placed in police custody. She had picked up her son from the victim's home before help arrived. She is no longer involved in the investigation. The two teenagers risk life imprisonment, a sentence reduced to 20 years if the minority excuse is accepted.
