Tuesday June 11, 2024, fifteen people were arrested, mainly in Rennes, but also in Côtes-d’Armor and Morbihan, as part of an investigation into Fentanyl trafficking in Brittany.

According to the Rennes prosecutor, 709 prescriptions were presented to pharmacies to obtain this drug, a powerful pain-relieving opioid. “517 were falsified prescriptions” And “206 results of theft from doctors”, according to the magistrate confirming the information on this trafficking revealed by Le Parisien. In total, “2,300 boxes of Fentanyl (were) delivered by pharmacies in the West” in 17 departments.

A synthetic drug in the United States

“The medicine was intended for personal consumption by the accused, who were very dependent, and for intra-community resale in France”, specifies the prosecutor. The drugs were sold within the Georgian community, according to Le Parisien.

Several people arrested on Tuesday were released because “these are simple network customers”. Three suspects were to be presented this Thursday, June 13, before an investigating judge.

In France, this product is a drug controlled by the authorities, unlike in the United States, “where the consumption does not relate to medicines, but to a synthetic drug imported by Mexican cartels or from China”, recalls the magistrate. Across the Atlantic, this opioid and its derivatives have become a major public health problem.
