The departments of Hérault and Aude have been placed on orange alert by Météo-. Three other departments are placed on yellow alert: the Pyrénées-Orientales, the (both storms) but also Haute-Corse (thunderstorms and rain flooding).

A rainstorm episode, requiring special monitoring due to the intensity of the forecast rains, particularly in the plains and on the coast, is expected from this Friday at 6 p.m. “Storms will break out in Hérault and eastern Aude. These storms [devraient durer] a large part of the night from Friday to Saturday,” specifies the meteorologists.

Heavy rains and significant accumulations

They will be accompanied by “heavy rain with hourly intensities reaching 50 to 60 mm/hour”. Total rainfall for this stormy episode could reach 80 to 120 mm locally 150/180 mm.

For the moment, orange vigilance is activated until 6 a.m. Saturday morning. During the day on Saturday, in the north-east of Corsica, significant accumulations are possible which could justify an increase in vigilance. Bouches-du-Rhône, and Corse-du-Sud will also go into yellow thunderstorm alert during the night from Friday to Saturday.
