During the last council, Thursday November 7the municipal executive recalled the context of the implementation of paid parking in this car park since the June 3 last.

We had a problem using this parking lot which meant that we had cars parking for the day in the blue zone.

Jean-Christian Bourcier, deputy mayor for security.

A parking study, carried out in 2021 by the cabinet Sarecodemonstrated “a low vehicle turnover rate for this car park with the presence of suction vehicles and a long parking duration for a city center car park”.

28 046 transactions

In the cabinet's study proposals, several scenarios were studied.

The parking meter solution with a price adapted to a city center car park and associated activities appeared to be the easiest to implement and the most effective with internal control management by the municipal police department.

Fougères City Council

The executive presented the results of the June 3 to October 1, 2024. Revenue from the parking meter amounts to €17,817.88. In total, 28,046 transactions were recorded.

The free represents 11,525 transactions (41.09% of activity), the half day package 14,576 transactions (51.97%) and the day package [1945transactions(694%)

The average parking rate reserved on a parking meter is 55.03%.

For the city hallthe installation of parking meters on an experimental basis in 2024 made it possible to “limit the flow of cars in the hyper-center by favoring the Nançon car park, a city entrance and city center car park with 500 spaces, allowing park for free all day”, “regulate parking in the Douve car park with an appropriate rate”, “promote vehicle rotation and access to the hyper-center and its shops while avoiding “suction cup” vehicles on this parking”.

The municipality also noted “a better rotation of vehicles in the La Douve car park with increased parking possibilities on the upper and lower part, increased filling of the La Douve underground car park as well as the free Nançon car park”.
