Let’s mark World Elder Abuse Day 2024 Government of Quebec

June 15 is World Elder Abuse Day. The Seniors’ Secretariat reiterates the importance of acting collectively to prevent and counter mistreatment in Quebec.

Let’s talk about abuse: informative video clips to discover and share!

In order to raise awareness among the population, professionals and relatives of people potentially victims of abuse, the MSSS organized an awareness campaign in which video clips aimed at demystifying certain types of abuse were broadcast.

In a half-humorous, half-serious tone, Jean-Sébastien Girard and his mother discuss elder abuse in short video clips. These address psychological and physical abuse, material and financial abuse as well as ageism.

We invite you to share these capsules with your contacts, your members as well as people subscribed to your newsletters!

Fighting abuse, one call at a time

In 2023, the deployment of the Elderly Adult Abuse Help Line (LAMAA) was completed, thus becoming the center for assistance, evaluation and reference in mistreatment in Quebec. Whether the caller is a senior or adult in a vulnerable situation experiencing abuse, a loved one, a witness or a professional in need of support, LAMAA workers will be able to help them depending on their situation.

The line offers a listening, reference and support service specialized in mistreatment, in addition to a consultation service dedicated to professionals, seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
