A accident which cost the life of a manSaturday June 6, 2024 in a festival of Lavaur (Tarn). Closure of the gardens, administrative and judicial investigations, psychological unit… We take stock.

As a reminder, that day, during the Rock and Cars festival organized in particular in the gardens of the city’s Bishopric, two large branches fell, the first leading to the second, on festival-goers. Five people were injured. One of them, a 54-year-old British mandied from her injuries.

No reopening of the gardens

“Never has such a dramatic event occurred in our city,” the mayor, Bernard Carayon, reacted in a press release on Sunday.

“An in-depth administrative investigation will be launched on Monday, but already, I would like to remind you that the trees in this garden had been pruned a few months ago, as we regularly do for all trees in public spaces. In the recent past, I had to urgently have two cedars in this same garden cut down, after advice from the National Forestry Office,” the mayor also specified.

The festival was of course canceled. But another event was also held for security reasons at the Chai des Clauzades park. Access to the gardens of the Bishopric is prohibited until further notice.

Results soon to be made public

In a Facebook live organized on Monday June 10 at the end of the afternoon (and planned in advance regardless of the accident), the mayor also gave an update on the investigations. “I naturally hired an administrative investigation from this morning. An expert came this afternoon in the presence of the gendarmerie,” he announced. He pledged to make the results public. Which should be known quickly.

A psychological cell was also set up to support witnesses to the tragedy.

” Screams “

“I had the sausage stand right opposite, I saw this big branch fall, then the cries of the people who were sitting on the lawn waiting for the concert to start. Awful. People around rushed to provide help and assistance. Then help arrived,” says Jean Marc Delhon on Facebook.

On social networks, testimonies followed one another between condolences and messages of sympathy for the organizers of the festival.

For its part, justice is also moving forward. The Castres public prosecutor’s office opened a investigation into manslaughter.
