Ten days after the death of Maud Seguin Ménard, 49, discovered stabbed in the neck in her bathtub, in Ruffey-lès-Echirey, a new clap of thunder has just sounded. The gendarmes arrested and placed in custody the victim's daughter-in-law and her boyfriend, Olivier Caracotch, Dijon public prosecutor, revealed this Thursday. They are both 16 years old and would have, according to the prosecutor, “set up this criminal project together”.
A disagreement existed between the victim and her daughter-in-law
A disagreement existed, again according to the prosecution, between the victim and her daughter-in-law. It was the boyfriend who allegedly delivered the fatal blows. In custody, he indicated where he had buried the knife, believed to be the murder weapon. As for the facts, “he does not dispute them, but says he was in a daze”.
As a reminder, on Tuesday October 29, the victim's daughter-in-law, then on school vacation, said she discovered Maud Seguin Ménard, around 11:30 a.m., unconscious, and called for help, before going into the street and cry for help. She was taken care of by the Samu psychological assistance unit, while the emergency services managed to resuscitate the victim. Transported in critical condition to Dijon University Hospital, Maud Seguin Ménard finally succumbed to her injuries a few hours later.
Since then, a murder investigation was opened and the gendarmes of the Is-sur-Tille brigade, supported by the Dijon research section, tried to shed light on what happened. If on the same day, two avenues were considered – that of a suicide attempt and that of an attempted murder – the criminal hypothesis was quickly favored, the murder weapon being untraceable.
This Thursday, the two teenagers are presented to an investigating judge with a view to their indictment for murder, concerning the young man, and for complicity in murder for the daughter-in-law. The prosecutor requests their placement in pre-trial detention.
