In the Oratory room in La Rochelle, it's a little early Christmas. The tables are completely filled with new clothes, shoes or toys.

His nine-year-old son by his side, Ludovic Rouville is on the lookout for good deals. He hopes to find some toys for her. Their eyes stop on a mini-billiard table. “What's that worth? Ten bucks? It's really interesting”he explains. “Even there, it's €15, there's nothing above €15. These are things that must cost 40 bucks in stores, minimum. So yes, it's interesting.”

All the items offered are unsold items from supermarkets or specialized stores, all sold here, at discounted prices, for the benefit of Popular Relief. “This is an opportunity to do business and participate in the Secours populaire action”explains Corinne who found baby bodysuits offered at €2 instead of the store price of €14.99.

To organize these two days of clearance, half of the 140 volunteers from Secours Populaire La Rochelais a/were mobilized. “It helps families a lot”explains Florence Manulelis, a volunteer. “Families don’t hesitate to come, from any social level.”

The stands are more stocked than usual. Since the anti-waste law of 2022, companies are prohibited from destroying their unsold goods and must revalue them, for example through associations. These donations are then tax deductible. This sale, with the other initiatives of the La Rochelle branch, makes it possible to finance 70% of the annual budget.

The big Secours populaire sale will be held until 6 p.m. this Thursday.
