After 8 races contested in this 2024 Formula 1® World Championship, it is Max Verstappen who leads the general classification. Reigning world champion, the Dutchman has 169 points and is ahead of Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc (138 points) as well as Lando Norris of the McLaren team (113 points). While he had started his season solidly by winning 5 of the first 7 races, Max Verstappen experienced a serious setback during the last Grand Prix™ in Monaco. In the Principality, the Red Bull driver finished off the podium for the second time this year. He finished sixth, far behind Charles Leclerc who won his first GP™ of the season. Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz completed the podium at the event on the Rock. This weekend, it is in Canada that the premier category athletes are setting down their bags, for a Formula 1® Grand Prix™ taking place on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.

Formula 1® Canadian Grand Prix™: Red Bull upset?

Ninth round of the season, the Canadian Formula 1® Grand Prix™ takes place this Sunday, June 9 on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal, nestled on Notre-Dame Island. The Canadian Grand Prix™ race takes place from 8 p.m. French time, live on CANAL+. It was in 1978 that the Formula 1® Canadian Grand Prix™ appeared on the calendar for the first time. It is one of the drivers’ favorite circuits. In total, there are 13 turns which alternate between fast sections. There is in particular a long straight line which promises great top speed, but also more winding places, made up of several chicanes. The very last is the most famous, attached to the “wall of champions” which leaves no room for error. The Formula 1® Canadian Grand Prix™ takes place over 70 laps, for a total distance of 305.270 kilometers. Leader of the general classification, Max Verstappen has won the last two editions of the Canadian Grand Prix™. Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are the two men who have won the race the most times, with no less than 7 trophies each to their credit. The first weather forecasts indicated the arrival of a storm front in Montreal and drops of rain are expected for the race, which will inevitably have an impact on the progress of the event.
