The fire broke out this Tuesday, November 5, around 3:30 a.m. The firefighters are asking the population not to go to the site.

The Gard firefighters have been intervening since Tuesday, November 5, around 3:30 a.m., on a fire which broke out near the Calcia site, in Beaucaire. The lower part of a 31 meter high silo, containing 512 m3 of coal, caught fire. This silo notably supplies a boiler room as part of the cement manufacturing process. The site, based on an industrial zone, is classified Seveso.

At this time, the circumstances of this fire are still unknown. The Gard fire brigade and the factory security service are currently cooling the silo from the outside using fire hoses and the integrated silo cooling system and inerting the silo. An operation which is still in progress and which requires the intervention of seventeen combat vehicles, command and medical aid resources from SDIS 30 representing a workforce of thirty-two firefighters.

No casualties and no technical unemployment

No injuries or technical unemployment have been reported, and firefighters confirm that the risk of spread to neighboring establishments is now over. However, the population is asked not to go there to avoid hindering emergency services.
