What to remember at 10 p.m.
– Polling stations have opened in all states and the election continues
– Donald Trump has already indicated that he will demand to know the result of the vote by the end of the night
– False bomb threats have been reported in several polling stations. The FBI attributed them to Russia
What time will the results of the American presidential election come out?
If the first polling stations close at 6 p.m. (Eastern Time, or 11 p.m. Belgian time) in Indiana and Kentucky, voters will still be busy voting during the evening in certain other states. Since election laws generally vary by state, sometimes by county, or even city, there are also differences in counting speed, ballot counting, and polling station closing times, such as: reminds the Washington Post.
In most states, initial results are announced by local voting precincts shortly after polls close. Again, each state has its own rules on how officials carry out the counting, therefore influencing the speed at which results are released. As an example, the Washington Post cites the post-election process of the last presidential election, dating from 2020, during which it took four days to gather a sufficient number of votes for the major decision-making offices – which are made up teams of data experts brought together by news organizations to analyze the data and project the winners of the vote – officially announce Joe Biden's victory. And for good reason, at the time, the context of the Covid-19 pandemic had caused a substantial increase in postal votes and early votes.
