Domenico Tedesco has put his stamp on the Red Devils since his arrival on the bench a little over a year ago. But he was obviously not the only candidate.

Peter Bosz was one of several candidates to succeed Roberto Martinez as national coach of the Red Devilsbut he was ultimately not chosen.

He is doing an incredible job with PSV (with whom he won the Dutch championship by crushing the competition, editor’s note). But he had problems at Olympique Lyonnais” explained Franky Vercauteren in HUMO.

“His ideas about football are largely the same as Domenico’s, but he also has major differences. Bosz sticks to one system for the whole match, I’m not a fan of that. Domenico is more flexible” he continues.

Tedesco rather than Bosz for the Red Devils

For the technical director, Bosz’s attacking football was too dogmatic, especially for a team that historically liked to strike on the counterattack: “Before, we were outsiders. Our status has evolved but it is still part of our identity. What was the main weapon under Martinez? How did that famous goal against Japan at the 2018 World Cup come about?’

Especially since this still corresponds to the profile of the team’s players, even if Tedesco is far from focusing solely on retraining: Even the real Madrid plays against, it’s one of his options. It’s the same for us.”
