residents scale the facade of the building to save a woman and a child

It was late this afternoon on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 that the firefighters were called following a fire broke out on avenue des Lombards, in building no. 73, on the ground floor.

Intoxicated people and an injured person in relative emergency

Many firefighters and police officers were on site as well as emergency services. Many local residents were also present. The firefighters quickly proceeded toevacuation of residents from the building.

The emergency services took charge fifteen people intoxicated by smoke fumes including young children. Five of them were evacuated to the hospital center.

An injured person in an emergency related to skipped from 2e floor of the building. No deaths have been reported.

Climbing on the facade of the building to participate in the rescue

Several people participated in saving tenantsespecially a baby. They climbed the front of the building and formed a chain to bring the baby and a woman down from the second floor.

The shocked people were first evacuated to the national police station opposite the building then to the Chartreux neighborhood center by TCAT minibuses.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Rehoused tenants

Firefighters cleared the ground floor apartment. The evacuation of residents ended around 5:40 p.m. The City and Troyes Habitat will organize rehousing tenants.
