Mathéo, 19, was the victim of a violent attack while returning home alone after an evening, near the Place de la République in Dijon (Côte-d'Or), during the night from Saturday to Sunday. His mother launched a call for witnesses on Facebook and claims that her son was “left for dead”.
The events occurred around 2 a.m., while Mathéo was leaving the nightclub where he had spent the evening in the company of friends. The young man was walking towards his vehicle parked on Avenue Garibaldi when he noticed a group of individuals trying to attract his attention from a distance.
“I head towards my car, which was parked on Avenue Garibaldi. On the way, I am approached from afar by people, but I don’t respond, I lower my head and move forward”relate-t-il for the Public Good.
The exchange, initially limited, quickly took a worrying turn. “I feel them approaching, they talk to me about my phone, about money and my car, I still don't answer and then they tell me that it wasn't a question. There was no blabla, they fell on me”remembers Mathéo. The young man is then put on the ground and violently beaten. “I was kicked in the face five or six times and lost consciousness.”he explains. When he comes to, his attackers have disappeared, taking his phone and wallet. Fortunately, they did not find the keys to his vehicle. Weakened and with vision limited by his facial injuries, Mathéo returns to the nightclub to ask for help.
“Luckily, his brain is not affected”
Alerted, the police quickly went to the scene to collect the victim's testimony. “Four to six individuals dressed in dark clothes, I didn’t see them well”deplores Mathéo, aware of the difficulty in providing more precise details. Taken to the emergency room by his mother, he was prescribed ten days of temporary incapacity for work (ITT), with extensive bruising, particularly on the face. “Luckily, his brain was not affected, the doctors were reassuring, but it could have ended badly, they beat him up and left him for dead”testified his mother.
Following the attack, Mathéo's mother launched a call for witnesses on Facebook. The post was quickly shared more than a thousand times. “I didn’t expect it”she confides. She also claims to have received numerous testimonies from other young people reporting similar attacks in this sector of Dijon. In her message on the social network, the mother specifies that her son's attackers were between “four and six of the North African type, approximately 1.80 m, dark colored tracksuits”.
A complaint was filed and an investigation was opened.
