He was one of the favorites with the Franco-Rwandan Gaël Faye for Jacaranda (Graset editions). The Franco-Algerian Kamel Daoud won the 122e Goncourt Prize this Monday, November 4, 2024, for Houris (editions Gallimard), succeeding Jean-Baptiste Andrea.
Two other finalists will compete for this 2024 edition of the Goncourt Prize: Sandrine Collette for Madelaine before dawn (editions JC Lattès) and Hélène Gaudy for Archipelagos (editions of L’Olivier).
The last selection of these four finalists was revealed on Tuesday October 22.
The result was announced at 12:30 p.m. at the Drouant restaurant, as tradition dictates. This is the first prize awarded under the presidency of Philippe Claudel.
Kamel Daoud, with Meursault, counter-investigationhad already won the Goncourt prize for first novel.
The Renaudot prize for Gaël Faye
The Renaudot prize, awarded in the wake of the Goncourt, went to Gaël Faye for Jacaranda. He was also heavily favored for this award.
Kamel Daoud was also one of the finalists, as were Élisabeth Barillé, Antoine Choplin and Olivier Norek.
