For “three months exactly”, the Marcel bakery was closed until further notice in Caen (Calvados), in the city center. On August 10, 2024, the store located on Place Saint-Sauveur, at the end of rue Pemagnie, suffered a fire.
A new oven started in the basement
“The oven caught fire with flour dust,” recalls Jérôme Letellier, owner of the store, following an electrical problem. Around ten people had to be evacuated, with the intervention of the Caen firefighters.
In the end, only the bakery in the basement was affected. The work was concentrated there. The store in itself, on the ground floor, has not changed. A new oven will be put back into operation this weekend. A stage that is always “stressful” for Jérôme Letellier, who confirms the reopening to the public from the bakery ce Sunday November 10“from 7:30 a.m., and until 9 p.m.”.
Open “Thursday to Tuesday evening”
The manager says he is “too eager” to resume, to find his customers. “The first ten days of stopping, it was devastated. »
The Marcel bakery leaves with its 13 employees. It will be open, as before, “from Thursday to Tuesday evening”.
