The gendarmerie services quickly made the connection with a fire which had broken out not far away.
The night was short for the Saint-Affrique gendarmes. The latter were in fact called to intervene in an attempted theft in a business in the town of Truel during the night from Friday to Saturday.
Bad luck for the criminal, the shopkeeper's dog ensures the security of the shop. The attempted theft is therefore short-lived since the animal, caught by the break-in, quickly puts the thief to flight. The gendarmes then launched an extensive search before laying their hands on the young man, who was immediately placed in police custody.
At the same time, the soldiers became aware of the fire in a business in Villefranche-de-Panat, after an attempted theft. Quickly, a link is established between the cases and the defendant is questioned about these two events.
The young man from the surrounding area admits the facts with which he is accused. He will be summoned to court in February 2025 to answer for the attempted theft committed in Truel and the theft followed by an attempted willful destruction of someone else's property by fire committed in Villefranche-de-Panat.
