It was a surprising awakening, which could have been extremely serious, that this patient experienced in her room in the maternity ward of Pellegrin hospital.
“The patient was trying to rest after a somewhat complicated birth and in the middle of the night, she was surprised by a ceiling collapsing on top of her”relates to France Blue Julien Dulou, South Health and Social delegate at Pellegrin hospital. “Luckily no injuries. The mother is unhurt. There were no children in the room either, so we avoided the worst”.
According to the delegate, a cardboard slab completely disintegrated due to taking in water. “When we enter the room, we see the ceiling with holes, water everywhere, with sheets to mop up”he describes.

An air of déjà vu
“It is not the fault, time and again, of having alerted management to problems of water infiltration in the maternity ward”continues Tomas Rouzerol, caregiver and CGT union delegate. “This once again highlights the dilapidation of the hospital”.
Indeed, “We have had recent problems in the neonatal room, water has flowed into the equipment reserve and the locker rooms were also flooded », continues Thomas Rouzerol.
And the rest of the hospital is not to be outdone: last September, metal slats collapsed in a room in the emergency department, according to the union representative.
And his colleague Julien Dulou continues: “Adult emergencies are completely in agony. When it rains, there are leaks everywhere (…) We just want the staff and especially the patients to be safe in their rooms. They don't come to the hospital to take cardboard or scrap metal ceilings on their heads.”.
