Speaking to Le Figaro-, Alain Minc explains that he did not understand Emmanuel Macron's decision to dissolve the National Assembly on the evening of the European elections.

«When an intelligent guy makes a totally absurd decision, it's a psychological problem of denial of reality.» Guest of Points de Vue this Monday, November 4 on Le Figaro TV to present his latest book All in all (Grasset), Alain Minc does not have words strong enough to express his dismay after the dissolution of the National Assembly on June 9. A privileged observer of fifty years of political life, the essayist and political advisor returns in particular, in his latest essay, to Emmanuel Macron's decision which he describes as “the most incredible political failure imaginable».

At the time of the European elections, the President of the Republic “had 250 deputies, it was missing 35 (to have an absolute majority, Editor’s note). He could, in 2022, buy the democratic right for a plate of lentils and in 2024, he could still buy it, by giving them two or three important ministries by adding bacon to the lentils“. The error is such, he adds, that the 90 deputies acquired a majority “will leave him day by day, since Emmanuel Macron is not re-electable”, half-heartedly mentioning the four deputies who have already abandoned the presidential group since the last legislative elections, including Sophie Errante and Sacha Houlié.

The former entrepreneur nevertheless recalls the very promising beginnings of the president. “When he arrives, Emmanuel Macron is a world star who plays very well for two years”he remembers. But the essayist becomes a prophet and augur of“a Shakespearean ending” for the last years of Emmanuel Macron's five-year term.
