A woman of mixed origins, with a pioneering career. This is generally what we remember about Kamala Harris. But who is she, besides that? Alexis Buisson, author of “Kamala Harris, the biography”, published by l'Archipel, paints a portrait of the American vice-president in Point J.
“His father was from Jamaica, his mother from India. Both grew up in the shadow of colonialism and met in Berkeley, the cauldron of civil rights,” recalls the correspondent in New York. The couple meet at a conference on racial issues. If this breeding ground is favorable to politics, it is first of all towards a legal career that the Californian turns.
Kamala Harris was elected prosecutor of San Francisco in 2003, then the state in 2010. She is nicknamed “top cop”. “Throughout her career, she has had to balance between very progressive voters but also more conservative forces like the police, with whom she works,” analyzes Alexis Buisson.
Kamala Harris is pragmatic, she is not into ideology
In 2017, she became a senator and, in 2020, she was chosen as a running mate by Joe Biden and became vice president.
What is her record as vice-president? What are his deepest beliefs?
