Max Verstappen won a lively Brazilian Grand Prix in the rain in Sao Paulo. The three-time world champion also had the pleasure of seeing Lando Norris finish 6th.
It was almost written that this Grand Prix in the suburbs of Sao Paulo would not take place without problems. After having to revise the Sunday program due to the rains on Saturday, the organizers were treated to an eventful race because of the downpours which leveled the values and allowed the best drivers to express themselves.
17th on the grid, Max Verstappen was under pressure after Lando Norris' morning pole position. But from the start, the three-time world champion managed to regain several places and quickly found himself 10th, while Norris was surprised by George Russell.
When Verstappen moved up to 6th place, a yellow flag gave Russell and Norris the opportunity to return to the pits to change tires. Suddenly 2nd behind Esteban Ocon, Verstappen was 'lucky' to see a red flag following Franco Colapinto's crash on lap 32. The Dutchman was able to change tires 'for free' to start a new start. A new safety car was then deployed after Carlos Sainz went off the road and Verstappen took the lead on the 43rd lap and never let go of the lead. He finally beat the two Alpines of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly.
The Batavian returns to victory, which had eluded him since June and a success in Spain. This is his 62nd career victory. And in the world championship, Verstappen now has a lead of 62 points over Norris with three Grands Prix still to go, starting with Las Vegas on November 23.
