In the early morning, all that remained was a pile of metal sheets and a few traces of charred chickens. During the night of November 2 to 3, 2024, a fire broke out on a poultry farm in Villemoutiers, in Loiret. The 8,000 free-range chickens housed in the shed did not survive. An additional difficulty for the breeder who had “already struggling to live“.
In the middle of the night, it was from the D2160 road that 3 nursing students saw flames in an agricultural building in Villemoutiers. The young women went to the scene and alerted the firefighters around 2:30 a.m.

For the breeder, the loss of these 8,000 free-range chickens is a hard blow. The poultry had reached their 17th birthday day out of the 75 breeding days usually. If the circumstances have not yet been determined, the breeder assumes a problem linked to gas or electricity.
In addition to the animals, it also means the loss of equipment and food for the farmer. Despite the hope that insurance will cover a few thousand euros of the damage, the breeder fears that all his losses will not be reimbursed, he confides to France 3.
